Best restaurants in Vauxhall London

Culinarily, "Casa Madeira" represents traditional Portuguese cuisine with a focus on fresh ingredients and generous portions. A highlight is the Espetada Madeirense, a juicy meat skewer served on special holders, accompanied by crispy fries and Milho Frito – a fried cornmeal dish that captures the authentic flavors of the island. The Grilled Octopus is also popular, impressing with a perfect balance of smoky grill notes and tender texture, often served with vegetables and roasted potatoes. Fish lovers rave about Bacalhau à Brás, a dish made with salted cod, eggs, and potatoes, offering a creamy consistency and intense flavor that embodies authentic Portuguese home cooking. For dessert, the Pastel de Nata stands out, a buttery, crispy tart filled with silky vanilla cream, considered one of the best of its kind in London, reflecting the long tradition of the Madeira Bakery that once operated at this location.

Traditional Portuguese dishes to try

The beverage selection is equally impressive and reflects the Portuguese way of life. Vinho Verde, a light, sparkling white wine from Portugal, is often praised for its freshness and pairs wonderfully with the seafood dishes. Madeira wine, a sweet, caramel-like fortified wine, is also a favorite that stylishly complements the meal and creates a direct connection to the restaurant's namesake. For those seeking something refreshing, the homemade iced tea offers a sweet alternative, especially appreciated on warm days.

A very good café where the locals tend to eat. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant near the big hotels, then look elsewhere. This place will give you a very decent meal for a very decent price and you’ll be rubbing shoulders with middle class Londoners and other regular folk. Not “touristy”. My favorite place for a proper English breakfast. Add a doughnut and a glass of juice and you’ll pay about 11 pounds.

Delicious Portuguese food! The espetada was tender and full of flavor. Cozy atmosphere, but a bit pricey.
